Postcard Post #15 - End of Year Wrap-Up
Thank you, Postcard Project friends, for another GREAT year. Before launching into 2025 I want to give you an end-of-year-update. As a result of your purchases, $2220.00 has been donated to area organizations: The Finger Lakes Land Trust $1000.00, Auburn Education Foundation $500.00, Auburn Athletics Department - Ringwood Award $500.00, The Strong National Museum of Play $100.00 and the Rochester Museum and Science Center $100.00.
When this all began, I felt like the primary "project" was fostering a love of sending and receiving postcards. That's true, but this year two new projects morphed: The Little Free Postcard Mailbox located at Hoopes Park in Auburn NY and the 5th Grade Postcard Pen Pal Project. Over 500 postcards have been delivered to the Hoopes Park mailbox for visitors to take. I will soon be scouring over the Little Free Postcard Mailbox journal entries and writing up a piece to share. Keep you posted.
Last September I was approached by a 5th grade teacher with the hopes of developing a postcard pen pal exchange between two 5th grade classrooms (Auburn & Skaneateles). I jumped on this opportunity and the kids are having fun. SO ... THIS IS WHERE YOU ALL COME IN. You are postcard folks ... please take a minute to send a postcard to these two classrooms. They will be so excited. Maybe you could share what life was like when you were in 5th grade or just memories of growing up (note addresses below). There will be more to share about this pen pal project in future blogs.
Signing off this year to you with a great big THANK YOU and a FUN POSTCARD REQUEST!
